Optimized FF Builds

Friday, February 25th, 2005

I found this guy’s website. He does optimized Fire Fox builds for Windows systems. The speed increase is quite noticeable. Less memory too. Check it out.

That bank teller’s name was “Eve Ho”.

I wonder if she’s considered a job in piracy?

” … Jack, the girl is blushing, she is radiant, and not in a dipped-in-phosphorus sense.”

“Why?”

“Because, Jack, you volunteered to be taken down into eternal tormet in place of her. This is the abosulte minimum (unless I’m mistaken) that any female requires from her man.”

“So that’s what they’re all after,” Jack mused.

That made me laugh. Laughing is good right now.

There are 2 other books in the cycle … and my birthday is the 28th … they’re in my Amazon wish list … hint hint hint

More pictures and dragons

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2005

I uploaded another batch of pictures. In this edition there’s a John Travolta toy, stone lions, Finns, and of course lots of Me.

The dragon problem around here is really terrible. It’s a huge public safety issue that the western world doesn’t have to deal with. Sure, hurricanes are bad, along with snow storms, but having large mythical beasts cavorting about the city burning and eating at will is a whole new category. Of course, then you have to have crews that dispose of their waste (read: “half eaten carcasses”).

I have to hand it to the HK government though, they’ve handled the situation quite well. What could be a huge negative to tourism just gets glossed over by almost everyone. Also, the local vendors make a killing off the “dragon repellent.”

But, in the long run, it’s just part of the cost of living in Hong Kong. There are tradeoffs in life. High class convenient life in Hong Kong vs. the chance one will swoop down and grab you at a moments notice.

I hear they’re attracted to estrogen. That’s good for me.

That Indian man said, “Special deal for you, three dollars off.”

Tasty lunch though. I guess I’m just a sucker for someone who can actually speak English.

I uploaded some more pictures. Some shots of the Night Market and some pictures from the New Years parade, last night.

Happy Year of the Chicken!

Wisdom

Tuesday, February 8th, 2005

Let me impart some wisdom:

Serifed are meant to be used on large blocks of text.
“Sans Serif” fonts are font’s without a serif.
A serif is a , “Small decorative strokes that are added to the end of a letter’s main strokes.” (Adobe)
Serifed fonts are more readable in large blocks.

Therefore, I propose the following:

1) Websites having large paragraphs of text should use a font with serifs.
2) Would-be bloggers who insist on using sans-serif fonts should, learn how to use line breaks.

That is all.
Please note the hypocritical irony.

Austin, you are exempt.

I’ve never …

{{popup IMGP3601.JPG IMGP3601 1024×768}}… seen so many people in my life. Last night I was ever so thankful I was tall. I speak of the pre-New Years night-markets that seem to be a tradition around here. There’s something otherworldly about being surrounded by tens of thousands of Asians all yelling and screaming in a foreign tongue.

It’s also other-worldly to spot, far off in the distance, another bastion of caucasian humanity poking through the black sea.

I harbored a fear that someone would begin to yell, “fire,” and I would be trampled-to-death never knowing what had been yelled.

In general, it seems that Hong Kong-ese (yes, that’s correct here) are much more physically affectionate to members of the opposite sex (with whom there’s romantic interest). Obviously this is qualified with “in public.” This also seems age-independant. Somehow a fellow holding his girlfriend’s hand is much more high-class when the older couple next to them is doing it too.
