what’s William reading?

Sunday, June 27th, 2004

Well, Samuel finally got me a new screen. It’s a black 17″ Samsung 712N LCD. Very nice. He got the old cracked (but still quite nice) screen. Everyone is (relatively) happy.

So, here’s what I’m currently reading (or about to start):

War on the Saints – Jesse Penn-Lewis
Invention by Design – Henry Petroski
I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist – F. Turek and Dr. Geisler
To Engineer is Human – Henry Petroski
The Cross and Salvation – Bruce Demarest
A Different Kind of Teacher – J.T. Gatto (2nd time through. That good)
Decision Making and the Will of God – Garry Friesen
Beyond the Fall of Night – A.C. Clarke
Picture of Dorian Gray – O. Wilde
Night of January 16th – Ayn Rand
Anne’s House of Dreams – L.M. Montogmery
Foundation Trilogy – Issac Asimov
Till We Have Faces – C.S. Lewis (just finished it)

Just a little overambitious I think …

Glen Phillips, NC, and Gmail

Wednesday, June 16th, 2004

Ok, so Glen Phillips and Nickel Creek are coming out with a CD July 13th.

They’re going on tour.

I wanna roadtrip to Lexington VA Aug. 17th. It’s about a 4.5 hr drive and the night before school starts, BUT, I’ve been listening to some of Glen’s stuff and it’s really really good.

I love Glen Phillips. Why? I love him because he has an open recording policy for his concerts. That means he WANTS people to record his concerts and put it online.

Go here. There are hundreds of megs of recorded concerts.

Check out this one. It’s a concert he did with Nickel Creek. It’s really good.

That’s why I wanna go hear them in August.

In other news, I bought a GMail account off of ebay.

Email me at williamcox@gmail.com.

I am now l33t. Well, I was before. I’m just more so.

Chris has a rocking mandolin break in the 4th song from the last in that concert.

new pics

I added 5 new pictures to the random image display up at the top of the page. It’s been a while (since the redesign) since I added new ones and some folks *cough*Jamie*cough* were saying I should add more …

So … be happy.

Go refresh the page now.

Am I busy?

Wednesday, June 9th, 2004

… Well, am I? People act like I am. I’ve lost the ability to decide.

I just won an eBay auction that I didn’t really want to win. But, I do need another battery for my laptop.

I got a sizeable scholarship in the mail this weekend. Happytimes. Assuming the ‘rents let me use it for my China trip then my insatiable desire for work will be lessened.

Why does everyone think they’re a writer?” – My Mother

Gas prices are upsetting me. Not the fact they’re “high” but the fact that people are making such a big deal about them. A while back they were about $1.35 for a gallon. Now it’s $1.95.

That’s a 40% – 50% increase.

Now, read this quote from the paper today:

“Thurle Chabra of Apex says her husband, a construction worke, has to drive from one job site to another.
‘It used to take him $20 a week, and now it takes him sometimes up to $40,’ Chabra said, pumping five gallons into her faded minivan … ”

You do the math. $20 to $40 is a 100% increase.

No.

Stupid Americans.

We just think it’s all bad because “people think at the margin.” General economics. For math heads it’s basically the idea that people respond to the derivative of a value more than the value itself. If you understood that you’re good.

Calculus rocks. Seriously.

new design?

Thursday, June 3rd, 2004

I think I need to redesign the site. Yeh. One of my may faults – I’m never satisfied with my work, especially webwork.

For the next two weeks I’m working with the NCSU Summer Camps. I’m getting paid to teach highschoolers how to build robots … this is good.
