Happy Birthday to me!

Saturday, February 28th, 2004

Well, I must say it’s been a very plesant birthday. I told one of the boys on my robotics team this morning it was my birthday, and before I knew it, they had made confetti, tied a bow around my neck (?), and gotten me cupcakes :)

I actually got to sleep in this morning after going to bed around 3:00 AM (I go to bed very early normally .. . ). You see, I was supposed to camp out to get tickets to the UNC v. NCSU game tomorrow. It snowed and NCSU canceled the camput but still allowed us to get tickets. The ticket distribution was at 8AM this morning. Since I wasn’t camping out I spontaneously decided to go to Campbell and hang w/ them folks. It was the One Act festival and I had a great time. We watched The Pianist afterwards, to continue the theme of depressing subjects from the One Act Festival. However, about 11 PM I got a call from my camput group leader saying he needed my ID to get me a ticket in the morning. So, I had to drive back on the icy roads at 1AM and deliver my ID to him. BUT, it was worth it! I’ve got Row D seats on the court! Booya!

When I picked up my ticket from Will he said, “yeh, we were thinking of painting our chests again this time, you wanna do that?” Honestly, I was a bit taken aback … hehe … I said, “Um … no … I think I’d get really cold.”

Jamie also called me this morning to wish me a happy birthday (thanks Jamie!!!) and it made me all happy.

I had some lovely BBQ for dinner, along with my favorite – cornsticks. Oh yes.

Somewhere intermixed was cake and ice cream. Got Leahy’s newest CD and Lewis’ Out of the Silent Planet, which is the first book in Lewis’ utterly amazing Space Trilogy (hey Adria, you’ve still got my other copy at your house … I want it back ;)

I will end with some great quotes by Stephen:

Me: “Stephen, you gonna come and visit me and my wife when we get married?”
Stephe: “ Yes! I’m gonna come and trash your house then leave really fast. When you’re 40 and I’m 20 I’m gonna do that.”
Me: “… Stephen, there isn’t 20 years difference between us, and there never will be.”
Stephen: “Oh … right.”
Me: “Are you going to give my wife a hug? She’ll be your sister-in-law, you know.”
Stephen: “Give your wife a hug?? You’d shoot me if I did that, wouldn’t you???”

P.S. Meredith called. So great. Long talk, lotsa fun. Great ending to a really great day.

Asheville pictures

Ok, the Ashville pictures are up!.

Of new stuff

Monday, February 23rd, 2004

Well, I’m making this post from my newly finished and super cool workshop. I finally got it hooked up to to the main breakerbox outside. That took a while. I wasn’t too confident hooking it up myself so I ended up waiting about 2 months for an electrician friend to finally come and do it. Now that it’s done I’m so very happy. I did all the wiring myself and am rather pleased. I’ve got a lovely 3′ x 8′ workbench and lots and lots of power (100A @ 240v). I also brought a network cable out here and hopefully I’ll get a WAP out here soon. Good sound system, comfy chairs, robots, what more could you want? Oh … wait … heat … yeh … hands definitely getting rather cold at this point. Gotta figure out what to do about that.

In other matters, I took a fabulous trip to visit Asheville and tool around in Pete’s new red Miata convertable. Me and Sam went down there and stayed at his aunts house. We drove 250 miles on Saturday and it took us 8 hrs. Hopefully I’ll get the pictures online soon. It was an absolutely glorious day. So much fun. It was a very new experience hanging out w/ engineering males. So many times my sphere of friends is female artist dominated (hey, but I’m not complaining … ).

I also got a really cool CD/MP3 player for my car. It took me about 5hrs to get it installed, but it’s beautiful now. Only gripe is that I can’t make the bass really thump like I could with the analog factory receiver. But, the remote control makes up for any loss. So cool!

All you folks keep in mind that my birthday is fast approaching – February 28th. I’m camping out on the 27th to get a ticket to the NCSU vs. UNC game on Sunday! Better yet, Philip is gonna be there to see UNC get whomped. Booya!

Desktop is acting wonky. Laptop wireless is acting wonky. Wanna post! Just testing.

Man it finally got hard

Saturday, February 7th, 2004

Random Person: “So William, how’s school.”

Me: “Well, after a year-and-a-half, it finally got hard.”

Yeh, it did. And so next week I’ve got 3 homeworks, 1 project, and 2 tests. No so fun. But, I get to see Les Miserables with a groupage from Campbell U.

Today I did judging for the science olympiad. It was something I shouldn’t have done, but my big heart and short memory had me volunteer for it. Rather boring actually. Not many teams. Then I went to see a show that Rachel Ann was in. Pretty good. Better than the last show I saw at Cardinal Gibbons.

You know, the great thing about women, is that when your heat hurts really really bad over one, you at least know that you have a heart. And that, my friends, is called optimism.

My birthday is coming up on February the 28th … hint hint hint … “teenager no more I will be.” As Yoda would say.
