Of EP2, Birthdays, and Calculus

Tuesday, May 28th, 2002

Well … quite another long yet really short week. I can’t even remember all what happened. But I’ll give it a
try.

Monday. Ah yes. I have to pass my judgment on Star Wars Episode 2. Well, I have to say that I was quite
impressed. It was much better than the previous installment. If the two were to be watched back-
to-back it’d improve both of them. Episode 1 was a lot of plot setup and not much action. Episode 2 was
almost all action … except for the one low points – the very forced quasi love scenes. Hayden Christensen
(sp) is great when he’s angry, but his puppy love comes off a bit flat. Anakin has an uncanny ability to get
himself into some very compromising situations. My advice – if you’re not supposed to be romantically
involved (as Jedi’s are not) then don’t get assigned to guard a really hot young female in an idyllic mountain
hideaway … especially alone. It just doesn’t make things easy. But did he take my advice…. no …

Episode 2 is definitely much more dark than the previous 4 and I found myself mentally crying out “no!
Don’t do that!” a lot of times. Anakin’s path to the dark side becomes more and more clear. How sad. It’s a
pity we already know what happens to him, and I can’t help but wonder how the next movie can be
anything but really depressing.

In other news … I started Calculus at NCSU this past Wednesday. 2 hours a day, 5 days a week, for the next
4 weeks. It’s rather trying. So far we’ve yet to see much Calculus. However, I really like my instructor and
that helps things.

Tis the time of year for the Cox Family birthdays! Dan turned 16 the 25 (past Sat.) Samuel turned 13 the
18th, and Stephen turned 7 Monday. My wallet is feeling pain.

Sam and Stephen took off to the beach with my grandparents this weekend so it was nice and peaceful
around here. Them coming back was quite a shock. I can’t say that I missed them. Perhaps now that Sam’s
back I can being to get my newest piece of music “The Fields of Hunza” crafted into a real song. Just the
mandolin leaves something to be desired. I also hope to get my grand essay on Hunza up here sometime.
Who knows when though.

A Weekend of Change and Great Games

Monday, May 20th, 2002

Hrm, been meaning to get to this all weekend. Lots of goings on. I
went to Philip’s house Friday night and reinstalled Windows ME on my
laptop – that is my 3rd or 4th format and 5th OS in 9 or so months. I’m
of the impression that computers should be formattted every quarter
just to make sure they don’t get too uppity on us. I also picked up
a few cool games. More on that later. But first, I have to say that
the first season of Star Trek is really lame … I mean, most of the
acting is ok, but the sets and props … ugh. I watched the episode
“Datalore” on DVD with the famous line, “shut up Wesley.” Oh it was
great. Classic episode. Back to the games ….

WORMS!! Dude, that is the coolest game ever! Worms World Party
is soo addicting it isn’t even funny. I played for hours yesterday
with my brothers. Little worms blowing up each other. Oh, it’s great.
I highly recomend it. Jedi Knight 2 isn’t so hot though. It uses the
Quake 3 engine and looks a whole lot like Voyager Elite Force. I haven’t
played but the first part of the first mission so I really can’t
comment too much further. Free Space 2 is another great game. It has
quite an engaging plot and even after play just a few missions I’m
already wanting to know “what happens next.” Great game, highly
recommended.

In other news … I FINALLY HAVE A ROOM! After moving from a room with
4 people in it to just 2 … wow … lots of space. Unfortunatly I’m
going to have to restring network cable under the house to this room.
The abscense of three-prong plus isn’t too great either. Right now I’m
plugged up to an outlet in the hall through a extension cord … I sure
hope someone doesn’t yank it …

Going to see Star Wars Attack of the Clones today. We’ll see how
it is.
